Gram-Vaani, meaning voice-of-the-village, is an initiative to enable media services in rural India. Media is an important agency to provide information that inspires people, empowers communities, brings knowledge and awareness, and enforces responsible politics. However, currently the effectiveness of media services in rural areas is fairly limited because local communities are not involved in the media delivery process and organized information delivery systems are absent in most rural areas. We believe that both community participation and information delivery systems are critical to media effectiveness to provide contextual information to people and to give a voice to the rural population that can be heard across the nation. Gram-Vaani aims to enable this.
