Ben Rigby of The Extraordinaries.org tells us how ephemeral volunteering using mobile devices works.

What do you think about this new model of volunteering (and participation) where information can be delivered to your mobile device when and where you need it?

Would you volunteer with your phone? Why or why not?

Would you volunteer for 20 minutes via cell phone?http://www.knightpulse.org/blog/08/11/19/have-twenty-minutes-mobile-phone-and-desire-help-others

Very cool concept

I saw Ben present this in Oakland yesterday. It's an inspiring idea. While I worry about the concept of doing good being "dumbed down" to twenty minute increments ... I think this work is inspiring and has a lot of potential.

twenty minutes is the point, though

Thanks for your comment, reifman.

I think the shorter increments are crucial to the concept here--more as a way of volunteering (dividing tasks into sections and offering it during convenient times for the individual) but not as a lower level of quality.

Would you want to volunteer using your phone for longer increments? That seems possible, too, with this project--

I think the real value here is in, as you say, the ability to volunteer with a short attention span. One of the reasons I love Twitter, 12secondstv and Facebook is because I can reach out, share a link, give an opinion, support an author--in under a minute.
